Saskatchewan Chicken Industry Development Fund (SCIDF)

SCIDF Funding Guidelines

The fund has identified a number of funding guidelines:

  • projects can be undertaken anywhere but must have applicability for the Saskatchewan industry.
  • cost sharing with other funding sources is encouraged to leverage the work that can be accomplished.
  • projects must demonstrate practical application to Saskatchewan within a reasonable timeframe.
  • feasibility and other market studies are the exclusive property of the fund providers.
  • the fund has no upper and lower limits on funding requests, however, the majority of funded projects will be in the $5,000 to $50,000 range
  • the fund anticipates disbursements of approximately $175,000 per year for the foreseeable future, targeted as follows:
Applied Poultry Production Research (55%)

Priorities
1. Antibiotic resistance and alternatives
2. Production improvements and advances
3. Food Safety
4. Farm worker health

Market Development (35%)

Priorities
1. New market development for Saskatchewan grown chicken
2. Feasibility studies (for example on new processing facilities, further processing facilities, a blue print for Saskatchewan broiler production in the future.
3. Economic impact (cost/benefit) of supply management of farmers, residents and the economy of Saskatchewan

General Promotional Activities (10%)

Priorities
1. Information transfer to producers via conferences and seminars etc.
2. Advocacy (lobbying)
3. SCIDF awareness programs (i.e. trade shows, STEP)
4. "Saskatchewan Farm Raised Poultry" promotions

  • funds allocated to a particular targeted area that are not utilized in a particular year can be reallocated to either of the other two targeted areas at the discretion of the Board.
